Cyprus caught in Web

ISTANBUL - The International Crisis Group has launched a new Web page covering the nexus of issues surrounding Cyprus, Turkey and the EU, titled, "Solving the European Union-Turkey-Cyprus Triangle."

This is a critical year for Cyprus as efforts to resolve the long conflict gather steam, and for Turkey as frustration with EU enlargement fatigue weighs heavy on its chances of approaching membership, said the Web page on its entry. It said the Web page aimed at continually revisiting these questions and others with frequently updated analysis and commentary.

"After five months of full-fledged negotiations, talks between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders are moving consistently ahead. But the two sides still have several months left before there is real pressure to conclude the talks after what is likely to be intensive give and take sessions on outstanding points of disagreement," Hugh Pope, Turkey/Cyprus project director, said on the Web page.
