ISTANBUL - Agence France-Presse
The death toll from flash floods which swept through Istanbul and its environs this week went up to 33 on Saturday with the discovery of another body, media reports said.
Divers retrieved the body of a 65-year-old man from a river bed, under a bridge, in the suburbs of the Turkish metropolis, the Anatolia news agency reported.
It said another three people remained missing, presumed drowned.
The latest discovery took the toll in Istanbul to 27 dead in the floods and torrential rains on Monday and Tuesday. Six people died in the neighboring province of Tekirdağ.
New heavy rains hit northwest Turkey overnight Friday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Several towns were battling flooding on Saturday, which swept away a bridge in Tekirdağ. Istanbul, which had been braced for more flooding on Saturday, had so far been spared rain at midday Saturday.
